Peter recognises that implantology can be challenging and is always ready to provide that personal encouragement to students that is needed to maintain motivation when the travails of our everyday lives distract us.
As somebody who started the course with no implant or surgical experience, the last thing I expected was to be surgically placing implants on a weekly basis, but that is what I now do. “How did that happen?” I ask myself. The UCLan Implantology Course involves lectures, hands-on experience, supervised implant placement, log diaries, case presentations, group discussions, peer review and reflective learning.
It is thanks to the teaching style and skills of Peter that I completed the course and achieved a Diploma in Implantology.
Peter is extremely knowledgeable and using his great teaching skills he shares this knowledge with wonderfully presented and well researched lectures and tutorials. As a true educator, he, enjoys and encourages students and takes great pride in watching students progress.
Peter uses his position to positively influence people’s lives. He is a great surgeon, a great guy and gentleman and tries to be as helpful as possible when teaching. Students are treated as fellow professionals and his man management skills get the best out of all students.
The skills learnt resulted in me securing a post at the prestigious McIndoe Surgical Centre, East Grinstead. I now work as part of a multidisciplinary implant team of consultant maxillofacial surgeon, restorative specialist, orthodontist and laboratory technician. I have a teaching role with the team and now test new products, materials and techniques. I enjoy the stimulation of this continuous professional development.
I was offered the post because 'I was good with people' had 'knowledge to share’ and a ‘willingness to learn'. I have to thank Peter, the whole UCLan team and my fellow students for their support during my studies.

Peter Young’s style of teaching is evidence based and pro-active with complete justifications of any recommendations that are made. I was awarded my Diploma in Implantology in January 2010. The course itself was intense but my time at UCLan was very pleasant.
