Introduction
Peter Young is recognised as a leading implant surgeon in the UK. He has gained a national and international reputation for providing excellent cosmetic dental implant treatment in a friendly professional manner.
Peter qualified in 1981 from Manchester University Dental School and then underwent five years hospital training in oral surgery (surgery to the mouth and jaws) + prosthodontic dentistry (replacement of missing teeth by dentures and crowns and bridges). He has undergone training in implant dentistry in the United Kingdom, Germany and Sweden.
Peter worked for 10 years at Manchester Dental Hospital in the implant clinic. Following 6 years part-time study, teaching and research into implants and bone grafting, he was awarded his Doctorate (PhD) in Implantology and Bone Grafting, in the specialty of oral & maxillofacial surgery. He is one of the very implant surgeons in the UK with a doctorate in this field. Many dentists in the Northwest of England refer patients to him for oral surgery and oral implantology. He has lectured throughout the UK and abroad.
In 2002, Peter was recognised by the General Dental Council as a Specialist in Oral Surgery (oral surgery comprises surgery of the mouth and jaws and includes the placement of dental implants and bone grafting).
Clinical Experience
He has been working in this field for 21 years and carried out over 3000 implant placements and over 100 bone augmentations.
(A) Complete implant treatment by Dr Young
Dr Young has 21 years in the surgical and restorative aspects of dental implants. This means that he can insert the implants and then restore them with the teeth of your choice. If you have severe bite problems then Dr Young may refer you to a specialist in prosthodontics for the restoration of the implants.
(B)Treatment by Dr Young in conjunction with your usual dentist
Some dentists refer patients to Dr Young for the surgical stages of implant dentistry alone, whilst fitting the teeth on the implants that Dr Young has inserted. Working with your own dentist reduces the number of visits you need to make to Dr Young's Clinic. However, not all dentist are trained or experienced in implant dentistry.
It is sensible to ask your own dentist how experienced they in restoring dental implants.
Teaching Activities
From 1990 to 2000, Dr Young worked, taught and carried out research in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, at Manchester University Dental Hospital.
In 2004, Dr Young was appointed Senior Lecturer in Implantology at Central Lancashire University. He teaches qualified dentists in implantology. He is Course Leader for the MSc in Aesthetic Implant Dentistry at UCLan , Preston.

Corrective Implant Treatment
Peter increasingly receives referred patients where the implant treatment provided elsewhere has failed or not yielded the cosmetic results that the patient wanted. Dr Young is also referred patients with implants that are unhealthy for treatment to improve their health.
